General :

Holistic planning

Greenplan is processing the complete planning scope in one instance and optimizes tours in the entire delivery area at once – supporting customers to leverage the full optimization potential instead being limited by planning in smaller sub-areas e.g. geo-fence based districts.

Dynamic planning

Dynamic planning allows customers to plan tour structures based on the actual shipments of the day, not averages or forecasts – avoiding static tours and enabling a better balancing of volumes across tours, resulting in less and more efficient tours e.g. lower CO2 emission.

Time-of-day dependent velocities

To calculate the optimal routes, stop sequences and starting times of delivery tours, Greenplan considers time-of-day-dependent and street-specific travel velocities that are based on historic data – increasing the predictability for customers (e.g. ETA) and designing tours that appear natural to drivers.

Time-dependent road restrictions

The algorithm not only considers and respects road usage restrictions depending on vehicle class, dimensions and weight; it also considers that for certain vehicle types some roads are closed during specific times of the day e.g. inner city areas – creating more reliable tours and ensuring meeting planned delivery times.

Shipments :

Flexible service time model

Greenplan provides high flexibility for defining relevant service times for pickup and delivery, considering various fixed amounts (e.g. depending on location or vehicle type) and variable amounts (e.g. depending on shipments quantity or specific attributes) – supporting customers to create a planning model that caters for their individual requirements.

Shipment priorities

In case of high shipment volumes to be planned on delivery tours, the algorithm allows to prioritize certain shipments to avoid that those important shipments are not dropped and definitely planned on delivery tours – keeping the customer promise and delivering in agreed time.

Vehicles :

CO2 emission minimization

Greenplan enables CO2 emission minimization by considering the respective carbon footprint per vehicle type, thus planning the most efficient routes – empowering customers to drive their own green strategies and to reduce costs by lowering fuel costs.

Mixed fleets & multiple fleet contracts

Vehicle fleets can differ in composition of vehicle types with different properties (e.g. capacity, speed, cost) as well as how they are contracted (e.g. internal fleet vs. sub-contracted) – all scenarios can easily be considered in the planning model, providing high flexibility to customer to support their individual use cases.

Flexible work time model

Various parameters can be considered when modelling the individual working time model, incl. maximum work time, earliest start & latest end, mandatory breaks or even allowing overtime – providing planners the flexibility they need to cater for the needs of their workforce.

Optimization of work start time

The algorithm exploits the flexibility of different tour starting times, determining the best time for each tour depending on time windows, time-dependent velocities and working time constraints – creating more efficient tours and reduce manual planning effort compared to manual planning in standard solutions.

Flexible capacity model

Multiple capacity dimensions can be supported at the same (e.g. number of shipments, weight, total volume or number of pallets), always ensuring that the total size of a specific dimension in a vehicle never exceeds the vehicle capacity – supporting the various use cases of customers and providing a granularity that allows to consider relevant specifics of all shipment and product types in scope.

Soft capacity

In addition to the definition of a hard capacity limit per vehicle (e.g. weight, shipment quantity or loading meters) planners can also define a lower, preferred capacity limit. Violating those soft capacities is possible, causing an extra cost in the calculation model and leading to a trade-off with other cost elements in the model (e.g. additional work time) – allowing planners to better balance of shipment volumes across tours.

Time windows :

Multiple time windows

Planners have the flexibility to define different strict time windows for pick-ups and deliveries for each single shipment, Greenplan then ensures that those time windows will not be violated when planning tours – keeping the customer promise and delivering in agreed time.

Location based time windows

In case time windows are defined per location, either for customer location or depot locations, geographic time windows are supported as well by mapping the geographic time windows to shipment-specific time windows – providing high flexibility to customer to support their individual use cases.

Tour structure :

Mixed PU & DL and PU to DL shipments

Use cases of combined tours can be modelled (i.e. shipment deliveries and shipment pick-ups in one tour), even tours that pick up shipments at some customer location and then deliver the same shipment at some other customer location are possible – catering for all possible combinations of pick-ups and deliveries.

Multiple depots

Vehicles can be dynamically assigned to shipments and depots, supporting multiple depots using one common vehicle fleet – maximising utilization of vehicle fleets across operations and reducing planning time compared to single depot planning.
